OBIEE Follow the sun / Time driven connection

One of our customers wanted a 'follow the sun' solution to connect to there international databases. Translated to the practice this means that they wanted to set a connectionpool based on the the local time. To achieve this we made a repository initationblock called "REP_IB_TNS" and a repository variable called "LOCAL_TNS_TO_USE".

In the datasource block we made a very simple query which determines which TNS to uses based on the time of the day:

We forced a refresh every 10 minutes by setting the "lifespan" of the block:

In the connection pool you make a reference by using the VALUEOF method:

n theory it takes a maximum of 15 minutes (10 minutes for "REP_IB_TNS", 5 minutes for the connection pool) to refresh all connections

Hi Sandeep,

Not really sure what your question is or how this relates to the article above. Have you had a look a guided navigation in the documentation?

Hi Sandeep,

You can find the documentation at otn.oracle.com. GoNavEx isn't an OBIEE function. If you want to do some java stuff have a look at the Oracle® Business Intelligence Web
Services Guide.

Hello John
This question is not much pertaining to what you have published in this specific blog entry, but I could find no other way to contact you, and could use some help. I am very junior in my company, and have just gotten some Oracle sanctioned OBIEE training (Create reports/dashboards)...When I got home from training, I downloaded the OBIEE suite from OTN, and installed it on my external. Now I want to figure out how to build a database that I can then roll up into a data warehouse using Informatica. I would also like to get into some more of the admin portions of the software. I was hoping you could help me out a little with this, or point me in the direction of some pertinent documentation to help me get started. Feel free to email me back at frick.brian@gmail.com, or post back here, I'll check back in a couple of days.
